Bring your meter and log to every diabetes appointment.

Begin to identify servings of carbohydrates.

Stop any sugar-sweetened beverages and replace with water, sparkling water, or flavored water.

Increase exercise as you are able (15 or more minutes a day).
PS-037
Gestational diabetes is insulin resistance related to pregnancy hormones. These hormones are made by the placenta. When you deliver, you lose the pregnancy hormones with the placenta.
You are not:
- testing your blood sugar
- taking medication to manage blood sugars, if prescribed
Your blood sugar, as well as your baby’s blood sugar, is managed and monitored in the hospital after delivery.
- 6 to 12 weeks after delivery your doctor will schedule a follow up testing.
- Yearly thereafter your PCP should draw an A1c to monitor for development of Type 2 Diabetes.
